Multiport Frame Relay Access Probe (M-FRAP)

The M-FRAP is an SNMP managed Frame Relay Access Probe with an integral T1/FT1 DSU/CSU. It includes a V.35 port and an RJ-48C Drop & Insert port. The M-FRAP offers an advanced in-band management solution that allows the device to be managed remotely without the use of an external LAN, SLIP or PPP connection. The M-FRAP independently monitors the Frame Relay network and provides valuable network performance statistics on up to 200 DLCIs of Frame Relay traffic. It can be used in a wide range of applications including LAN internetworking and legacy networks over Frame Relay and for internet access. It is flexible enough to work in virtually any T1 application - with or without Frame Relay and is a member of a flexible and diverse family of FRAP™ products. M-FRAP can be managed by any SNMP manager or by VITAL’s Envisage GUI.

FEATURES
T1/FT1 Frame Relay Access Probe with built-in DSU/CSU and Drop & Insertt/PBX Port

  • Collects statistical information on WAN/Frame Relay environments
  • Monitors 200 DLCIs simultaneously
  • Monitors performance of IP, IPX, SNA and application layer protocols
  • Provides SNMP access to in-band management and diagnostics without passing through or requiring a router
  • VT-100/TELNET access, PING support and built-in service modem
  • TFTP Software downloadable over the network
  • Provides quick install for fast and easy installation
  • Maintains connectivity during failure conditions to permit diagnostics
  • Integrates with VITAL ’s Envisage GUI, Performance Manager™ and other 3rd party applications
  • 90 day warranty

BENEFITS

  • M-FRAP replaces standard DSU/CSU devices with a frame-aware product that includes the DSU/CSU thus providing valuable information about the performance of the frame relay network allowing timely decision making for maximizing availability and minimizing management expenses.
  • M-FRAP restores diagnostics lost when switching from Leased Lines to Frame Relay and includes new diagnostic tools designed for frame relay thus allowing operators to test, stress and prove their network is operational while preventing inadvertent testing from bringing down the network.
  • M-FRAP includes TFTP capability allowing downloads over the network thus eliminating the need for very costly site visits to perform maintenance and upgrades.
  • M-FRAP includes a wide array of troubleshooting and disaster recovery techniques for Rapid Problem Determination and Isolation that allows operators to pinpoint the problem quickly and apply the necessary resource to correct it thus minimizing downtime and saving substantial amounts of company revenue.
  • M-FRAP includes a QuickInstall feature that allows even the least technical to install the unit in minutes with a minimum of parameters and can be set up via LCD/Keypad or VT-100 terminal or via built in service modem thus making the unit quick and easy to install.
  • M-FRAP presents data in standard SNMP and Frame Relay MIB format thus making it easy to import into any SNMP manager or third party data collection facility that may already be present in the company thus saving money and preventing customers from being locked into a proprietary solution.
  • M-FRAP includes a host of frame relay monitoring features such as endpoint autodiscovery and latency reporting that can be used insure network performance meets the needs of the users at all times and can be used to enforce service level agreements or to improve service.
